Storyteller and author, Carolyn Stearns has walked the woods and trails of Eastern Ct. She has sat by the fire in some of its oldest houses and spins the tales as they were done 250 years ago. Where the Atlantic Ocean crashes to the shores she has watched the last of the old ships go down to sea and hears the echoes of long ago sailors as they make their way home to port. Let Carolyn’s stories transport you through time to a place where life was slower and heroism and strength prevailed.

TOWN OF UNION CONNECTICUT

Union was the last town to be settled east of the Connecticut River, largely because of its rough terrain and poor soil. In 1633, John Oldham, an adventurer from Massachusetts, obtained specimens of black lead or graphite from the Indians. During the Revolutionary War Governor Trumbull tapped this valuable resource for use at cannon foundries. On July 1, 1720 the General Assembly sold 12,500 acres to 12 proprietors for 307 pounds, comprising the area that is now Union.
