Come hear Union resident and Land Steward for Norcross Wildlife Sanctuary, Ethan Smith, discuss our special corner of New England. Ethan has worked at Norcross for the past 15 years. He is responsible for maintaining, and has intimate knowledge of the sanctuaries 8000+ acres! Ethan will share a little of Norcross history, current projects such as a prescribed fire on a parcel in Monson, invasive plant management, stream and wetlands connectivity, and the forest legacy and conservation easement programs. LEGAL NOTICE TOWN OF UNION CT The Town of Union Planning and Zoning/Inland Wetland Commission will hold a Public Hearing on May 7, 2025 at 7:30 pm at the Union Town Hall Lower Level, 1043 Buckley Highway, to discuss the Special Permit Application of PCamp Holdings, LLC, for the removal of sand and gravel from a 3-acre area located on property at 154 Cemetery Road. Union was the last town to be settled east of the Connecticut River, largely because of its rough terrain and poor soil. In 1633, John Oldham, an adventurer from Massachusetts, obtained specimens of black lead or graphite from the Indians. During the Revolutionary War Governor Trumbull tapped this valuable resource for use at cannon foundries. On July 1, 1720 the General Assembly sold 12,500 acres to 12 proprietors for 307 pounds, comprising the area that is now Union.
