Holiday Food Drive Donations being accepted beginning November 1

HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE

It’s that time of year again. Time to remember those friends and neighbors in need. The Congregational Church of Union, the Town of Union and the Union Free Public Library are jointly calling for donations of non-perishable foods or grocery gift cards to help folks have a good Christmas holiday meal. We hope you can help. Thank you in advance for your kindness. We wish you a happy and healthy holiday season!!

Drop off locations for THANKSGIVING: UNTIL NOVEMBER 22
Church: Sunday 9-11 a.m.
Town Hall: Tuesday and Thursday 9 am – Noon, Wednesday 9-12 and 1-3.
Library: Monday 1 – 5 pm, Wednesday 1 – 7 pm and Saturday 9 am to 2 pm

TOWN OF UNION CONNECTICUT

Union was the last town to be settled east of the Connecticut River, largely because of its rough terrain and poor soil. In 1633, John Oldham, an adventurer from Massachusetts, obtained specimens of black lead or graphite from the Indians. During the Revolutionary War Governor Trumbull tapped this valuable resource for use at cannon foundries. On July 1, 1720 the General Assembly sold 12,500 acres to 12 proprietors for 307 pounds, comprising the area that is now Union.
