Join Us! The Union Public Library presents a free town event, open to the public: Sunday April 30 @ 11:00am in the Union Community Room (located in the lower level of the Town Hall) -Talk by Local Author @ 11:00 -followed by a break for coffee and homemade refreshments -"Keeping the Balance" Presentation @ 12:00 -Senior bus transport available if requested ahead of time -you may attend one event, or stay for both For questions or to RSVP (not required but appreciated), contact Cailin at the Union Library: 860-684-4913 or littlelibrary979@gmail.com

TOWN OF UNION CONNECTICUT

Union was the last town to be settled east of the Connecticut River, largely because of its rough terrain and poor soil. In 1633, John Oldham, an adventurer from Massachusetts, obtained specimens of black lead or graphite from the Indians. During the Revolutionary War Governor Trumbull tapped this valuable resource for use at cannon foundries. On July 1, 1720 the General Assembly sold 12,500 acres to 12 proprietors for 307 pounds, comprising the area that is now Union.
