Board of Assessment Appeals

Town of Union

All owners of motor vehicles registered in the town of Union are hereby warned that the Board of Assessment Appeals of the Town of Union will meet in open session in the Town Hall upstairs conference room on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 7:30PM to 8:30PM for the sole purpose of hearing appeals related to the assessment of motor vehicles.

All persons claiming to be aggrieved by the doings of the assessor of the Town of Union regarding motor vehicle assessments on the current year’s Grand List are hereby warned to make their appeal to the Board of Assessment Appeals at this meeting.

Failure to attend this meeting waives the right of the taxpayer to appeal their motor vehicle assessment for the current tax year.

TOWN OF UNION CONNECTICUT

Union was the last town to be settled east of the Connecticut River, largely because of its rough terrain and poor soil. In 1633, John Oldham, an adventurer from Massachusetts, obtained specimens of black lead or graphite from the Indians. During the Revolutionary War Governor Trumbull tapped this valuable resource for use at cannon foundries. On July 1, 1720 the General Assembly sold 12,500 acres to 12 proprietors for 307 pounds, comprising the area that is now Union.
