Selectmen’s Meeting                                      May 4, 2020                        Union, Connecticut


 First Selectman Eaton called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.


Attending:  Selectmen – David D. Eaton, David Heck, Mary Huda


Minutes from the April 20, 2020 meeting were read. Selectman Huda made a motion to accept the minutes as read; seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.


Bills were presented for review.  Selectman Heck made the motion to pay the bills as presented; seconded by Selectman Huda.  Vote was unanimous.


Correspondence:  Monthly Activity Report for Union from Troop C

                                 Letter offering masks for sale.

                                 Electronic Transfer from State of CT for Town Aid Road


New Business:    


The Board discussed the virtual Board of Finance Budget Hearing to be held on Tuesday, May 5 at 7:00 PM. Per Executive Orders 7S, 7I and 7HH, Selectman Heck made a motion to authorize the Board of Finance to adopt the FY 2020-2021 Budget as proposed. Motion seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.


The Board will determine at the May 18 meeting whether to purchase the Zoom platform for a 1-year term, or continue on a month-to-month basis.


As the annual Town Meeting cannot be held in May due to the Pandemic, the Board will consider alternative plans at the May 18 meeting.


Discussion regarding Memorial Day alternate plans to the community parade and ceremonies is continuing, including a vehicle parade to Center Cemetery and a brief ceremony being held there, with participants remaining in or at their vehicles. Plans will be posted on the Town website, facebook page and town boards.


First Selectman Eaton would like to have masks available for Town residents in need of them. Residents that are currently making masks will be contacted about making them and being reimbursed for materials.


The Town Report has been completed. Hard copies are in the Town Hall and an electronic copy will be posted on the website.


First Selectman Eaton discussed the access for town hall employees to work remotely. EastConn IT will be contacted to help set this up.


The LoCIP project for LED lighting replacement in the Town Hall has been completed.


Motion to adjourn at 8:48 p.m. by Selectman Heck; seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.
