Selectmen’s Meeting                                      April 6, 2020                        Union, Connecticut



 First Selectman Eaton called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.


Attending:  Selectmen – David D. Eaton, David Heck, Mary Huda


Minutes from the March 16, 2020 meeting were read. Selectman Huda made a motion to accept the minutes as read; seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.


Bills were presented for review.  Selectman Heck made the motion to pay the bills as presented; seconded by Selectman Huda.  Vote was unanimous.


Correspondence:  none


New Business:    


The possible delay of the annual Town Meeting due to social distancing orders was discussed. First Selectman Eaton offered the possibility of postponing the meeting and moving forward with plans for a virtual public hearing, then having the Board of Finance adopt the budget. If a town vote is not held, the Board of Selectmen can make a motion for the Board of Finance to adopt a budget, following virtual hearing, per Executive Order 7i.


Following discussion Selectman Heck made a motion to move the Town meeting to Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at 7:00 pm, whether in person or virtual; motion seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.


Zoom meeting options were discussed.


Selectman Huda made a motion to prohibit use of the Town Community Room and the Grove and Pavilion until further notice; seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.


The Board reviewed and discussed Executive Order 7S regarding property tax deferment and interest reduction programs. Following discussion, First Selectman Eaton made a motion to offer the .25% interest for 90 days program. Motion was seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous. The Board will review the program at the April 20 meeting.


Memorial Day Ceremonies were briefly discussed.


Old Business:


There was review and discussion of the 2020-21 Proposed Budget.  


Motion to adjourn at 8:37 p.m. by Selectman Huda; seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.
