SUMMARY:Come hear Judith Hooper Share the Grass Hill Farm story\, beautiful wool products and her discovery of the land and the Native American Stonework Wed. July 16
DESCRIPTION:Join Us\nWednesday\, July 16\, 10-12noon\nCommunity Room\, Union Town Hall\, 1043 Buckley Highway\nJudith Hooper\, Shepherdess and Scientist\, will share the story of Grass Hill Farm\, along with her discovery of the land and the Native American Stonework. She will bring some of her wool products and unprocessed wool. Come and learn about the very first 100% Herdwick Sheep born in the USA ~ On her farm here in Union!\nGrass Hill Farm is a small hobby farm in Connecticut’s Quiet Corner. It is one of a handful of farms in the US raising American Herdwick Sheep. Considered a conservation breed\, these are the sheep made famous by Beatrice Potter. They are cheeky\, funny\, and have big personalities. \n \nOriginally from the Lake District in the UK\, Herdwick ram genetics were imported as frozen semen around 15 years ago and crossed primarily with Icelandic ewes to produced an American Herdwick. Last Winter\, frozen embryos were imported from the UK and\, with the help of Tuft’s excellent reproductive expertise\, the very first 100% Herdwick sheep in the USA were born here this week. \nBesides providing fiber\, the sheep have participated in an animal facilitated mindfulness and trust workshop offered by the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck NY
