Selectmen’s Meeting                           June 17, 2019                       Union, Connecticut


First Selectman Eaton called the meeting to order at 7: 30 p.m.


Attending:  Selectmen – David D. Eaton, David Heck, Mary Huda


Minutes from the June 3, 2019 meeting were read. Selectman Heck made a motion to accept the minutes as read; seconded by First Selectman Eaton. 2 votes aye; 1 abstention.


Bills were presented for review.  Selectman Heck made the motion to pay the bills as presented; seconded by Selectman Huda.  Vote was unanimous.


Person to be Heard: Nathan Swift, Representative to Northeast District Department of Health. Report on Board Meetings held in June, including the hiring of two new employees.


Correspondence: Memo from Town Clerk regarding Town Commission and Board Vacancies:  Bd of Finance, 1; Planning & Zoning, 1; Library Bd, 2; Constable, 1; Registrar of Voters, 1. The Board of Selectmen will make the appropriate appointments at the July 1 Meeting.


New Business:


Following discussion, First Selectman Eaton made a motion to increase the Town Hall custodial hourly wage for Carl Myers to $20.91 per hour and the custodial hourly wage for Jan Parsons to $15.76 per hour, said wages to be paid out of the Buildings and Grounds Salary Account, 3110-120, effective July 1, 2019; seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.


First Selectman Eaton reported on a meeting with Cox representatives in sales and tech support. The Board approved First Selectman Eaton’s recommendation to cancel an unused phone line and the Town Hall cable TV service.


The Town holds a Bond Account for blasting work on Holland Road with Stafford Savings Bank. The current signers are Amanda Gaug and Albert L. Goodhall, Jr.  Selectman Huda made a motion to remove Albert L. Goodhall, Jr. as a signer and add David D. Eaton as a signer to account 662680, effective June 17, 2019. Amanda Gaug will remain on as a signer. Motion seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.


Custom Contractors in Union, has proposed storm windows for the Library basement windows. The quote is for $600. First Selectman Eaton recommended the funds be allocated in the 2019-2020 fiscal year.


The Emergency Management Director for the Town is Stuart Cobb of Willington. First Selectman Eaton made a motion to pay Stuart Cobb a stipend in the amount of $250.00 out of the Civil Preparedness Account 2160-200 in appreciation for serving as the Emergency Management Director for the Town of Union. Motion seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.


Replacement of the First Selectman’s laptop was discussed. The Board approved the purchase of a new laptop, and appropriate software.


First Selectman Eaton will reach out to ClearCom regarding their Tech Assessment and Proposal. The Town is looking for more of a “break-fix” agreement than a monthly service agreement, which is more costly than budgeted.


Motion to adjourn at 8:49 p.m. by First Selectman Eaton; seconded by Selectman Huda.  Vote was unanimous.
