The meeting was called to order at 6:38 p.m. by A. Estell.

Attending: A. Estell, A. Blank, E. Fournier, J. Garden, Sup./Prin., S. Jackopsic, M. Powers, Rec. Sec. Others attending: L. Demurjian, P. Zulick-Bessette

Approval of Minutes E. Fournier made a motion to approve the minutes from September 8, 2021 and October 27, 2021, 2021. Seconded by J. Garden. Unanimously approved.

Individuals to be heard- none.

Communications- A. Estell introduced a letter of resignation from board member H. Bradway. A. Blank made a motion to move the reading of the letter of resignation and add the Screen and Stay proposed strategy to New Business. E. Fournier seconded the motion. The motion unanimously carried.

Sup./Prin. Jackopsic read a letter from teacher Alison Gordon announcing that she will be taking a maternity leave beginning March 1 until the end of the school year. She will return in August for the next school year.

Administrative Reports and Activities Summary Superintendent and Principal’s Report-Sup./Prin. Jackopsic reported that staff attended a professional development on Nov. 1 which engaged them in project based learning for ELA and math.

We have added another parent to the Advisory Group.  Sup./Prin. Jackopsic and Mr. LaMonica continue to collaborate on SEL. We continue to work with the local health department as well. A coffee conversation was recently held with parents. More are planned in the future. Smarter Balance testing results have gone out to parents. Stafford meals continue to go well. The school website is up and running and working well. The students are enjoying the after school clubs. Mrs. Zulick-Bessette is participating in an inter-district EASTCONN grant with her third and fourth grade students. The nurses are beginning COVID-19 screening next week for staff and parents who have signed up. The Veteran’s Day event will take place Nov. 11 outside on the town green at 10:00 a.m. Ideas for future field trips are welcome from the board and parents.

Staff Report- Mrs. Zulick-Bessette reported on what the teachers in the elementary wing are currently doing in their classrooms. Pre-K and Kindergarten are reading books with rhyme; interactive writing; numbers 1-10 in math; and in science, forces and motion. Grade 1 and 2 just completed reading Charlotte’s Web; small moment stories in writing; measurement in math and in science; they are studying sound in science. The third and fourth grade students have just completed reading Stone Fox. They have begun a Projectbased learning project focusing on how to prevent damage from extreme weather, and are working on the project with members of the community. In math, the focus has been on measurement using hands on activities.

Committee Reports

1. Curriculum-will meet after Thanksgiving

2. Communication-Sup./Prin. Jackopsic reported that the new school website is working well.

3. Transportation-Currently no late bus for the Woodstock Academy.

4. Personnel-will meet after Thanksgiving

5. Building- Sup./Prin. Jackopsic Jackopsic reported that he will be following up with Pro Lock and Safe on fixing the front door. The ventilation system has been recently inspected serviced by Stafford Mechanical.

6. EASTCONN-none

Financial Report

1. Review of bills. The bills were reviewed and in order. 2. 2021-22 Board of Ed Budget-Sup./Prin. Jackopsic reported that things are good at this time and will continue to monitor.

Old Business

1. Staff vaccine policy 3rd and final reading- No changes were made. A. Blank made a motion to adopt the Staff vaccine policy. E. Fournier seconded the motion. The motion unanimously carried.

New Business

1. BOE Goals and Process- A three-year goal with several components will be in our goal development.

2. Meet and Greet/New Staff Collaborative Session- Wednesday, November 17, 2021 the Board and Staff will hold a special meeting at 3:15 p.m.

3. Member resignation- A. Estell read board member Heidi Bradway’s letter of resignation to those present. Her resignation is effective immediately (November 10, 2021). E. Fournier made a motion to accept Heidi Bradway’s letter of resignation with regrets. J. Garden seconded the motion. The motion unanimously carried.

4. Screen and Stay- Sup./Prin. Jackopsic distributed the proposed option from the CSDE to read. He explained how the process is implemented and gave a summary of the options it provides. E. Fournier made a motion to adopt the Screen and Stay program. A. Blank seconded the motion. The motion unanimously carried.
