Selectmen’s Meeting May 18, 2020 Union, Connecticut
First Selectman Eaton called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
Attending: Selectmen – David D. Eaton, David Heck, Mary Huda
Minutes from the May 4, 2020 meeting were read. Selectman Huda made a motion to accept the minutes as read; seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.
Bills were presented for review. Selectman Heck made the motion to pay the bills as presented; seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.
Correspondence: Flyer from CCM (Connecticut Conference of Municipalities) regarding free printing services directly related to the CT State of Emergency.
CCM Memo regarding equity distribution of 50% on annual dues
New Business:
Following discussion, First Selectman Eaton regretfully made the motion to cancel the Old Home Day town event, scheduled for August 15, due to the pandemic. Motion seconded by Selectman Heck; vote was unanimous.
Selectman Huda made a motion to approve the safe voting plan for the August 11 Primary, as submitted by the Town Clerk. Motion seconded by Selectman Heck; vote was unanimous.
The Board began discussion of the Reopening Plan for the Town Hall, possibly mid to late June.
All persons entering the building will be required to cooperate with the following:
Wearing a mask
Sanitizing at mounted wall sanitizer dispenser or going to wash hands in restroom
Practicing social distancing
Be willing to have temperature taken through non-contact method
There will be no loitering and the vault will be open by appointment only
First Selectman Eaton made a motion to hire Brian Leffingwell to build plexiglass partitions for the Town Clerk and Tax Collector’s Offices. Selectman Huda seconded the motion; vote was unanimous.
First Selectman Eaton will contact the Library Board Chairman to discuss a plexiglass divider and their reopening protocols.
The Community Room and the Town Pavilion will remain closed until further notice.
Old Business:
The Virtual Budget Hearing held on May 5 went well. The Board of Finance will set the mil rate at their May 19 meeting.
Selectman Heck made a motion to purchase a one-year plan with Zoom, to accommodate future virtual town meetings.
The Memorial Day observance will be held at the Center Cemetery only, at 10:00 am on Monday, May 25. Participants will be required to drive up and remain with their vehicles. There will be a gun salute and taps.
A Memorial Wreath will be placed at the Town Green. This information will be posted on the Selectmen’s facebook page and town website.
Motion to adjourn at 8:35 p.m. by Selectman Heck; seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.
