Mission
The Union Free Public Library is dedicated to proving the entire community with access to information in its many forms, be it intellectual, recreational or vocational, and to conserving our national and local cultural heritage.
History
The Union Free Public Library was established during a town meeting in November of 1894. It officially opened its doors March 25, 1895. At first housed in a private home, it quickly outgrew its space, and a dedicated building was completed in 1912. The library still occupies this same building.
Renovations of the basement in the 1960s and 1970s opened additional space for a children's room, which now houses our collection of junior fiction, non-fiction, reference materials, and videos, and provides a great resource for our local school children who visit on a weekly basis during the school year.
